TROOP SLEEPER #100260
These two cars were built by the Pullman Company as troop sleepers to carry veterans returning from World War II. The 100260 was Pullman #9234, built in December, 1945, and the 100261 was #9681, built in January, 1946. These cars continued their troop-sleeper service through the Korean conflict; then they were purchased, along with 27 others, by the KATY to serve as crew cars for track workers. The KATY bought one more troop car and used it as a mail car. These two cars, plus a set of original Allied Full-Cushion trucks from Katy 100263, were donated by the Union Pacific Railroad. The car pictured (#100261) houses the model railroad layout.
