Santa Fe Closed Top Hopper Car

100 Ton 3 Bay

This is a Pullman made car and was built in 1966 and is designed to haul bulk chemicals as well as wheat, grains, farm feed, and other products. This car served "Santa Fe" and "Burlington Northern Santa Fe" lines and operated much of its service life in and out of Wichita Falls.

In 2001 is was pulled out of service as a "bad order", meaning, it needed repairs before it could go back into service. It's broblems were parts missing such as a "break beam" so therefore it had no breaks.

It sat in the Wichita Falls BNSF Rail Yard for over 10 years. In 2011 it was decided to be scrapped and laid on its side ready for the scrappers.

In June of 2011, the Wichita Falls Railroad Museum asked that this car be donated to the museum instead of being scrapped.

In January of 2012, Burlington Northern officials granted ownership of this car to the Wichita Falls Railroad Museum and moved it on to the Museum property.
